Abortion-Worth Fighting About

The McCain-Palin camp is taking a break from recklessly claiming that their opponent is an unpatriotic terrorist and inciting mobs to scream out "kill him," and turning back to an issue:
"A vote for Barack Obama is a vote for activist courts that will continue to smother the open and democratic debate that we deserve and that we need on this issue of life," she said.
Full story I've written about this a lot, but it is because I think it is important. Right wing operatives morphed the abortion issue that was a part of restrictions on birth control into an issue about the beginning of human life. Unfortunately, the left wing response to this perversion--the idea that terminating a pregnancy is murder--is to keep on the line about self-determination and choice.

That is not enough. We have to address straight on the claim that life begins at conception. If life begins at conception, it changes the issue. But, life does not begin at conception. A fetus is not a baby. If you think it is, then it is not an issue of choice.

Another classic example of the democrats' defensive crouch.

It's almost reflex now.
