I'm not sure what to do with it. I think it is crazy to think that American culture is under siege, or that gay marriage, Spanish speaking people, and Janet Jackson's breast are counter to the essence of American culture.
This is not directly on point, but consider what the Apostle Paul said about another cultural question: Should we eat food offered to idols? Paul said, yes but:
Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. For if anyone with a weak conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idol's temple, won't he be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols? So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.1 Corinthians 8:9-13. I wish Paul had said explain to your brothers why it is not a problem to eat food offered to idols. In any case, I have this nagging feeling that these folks who feel our culture is under attack need to be comforted not mocked. The problem is, we can't comfort them at the expense of gay people, Spanish speakers, or free speech.
